Visit of Tulle to Bury in April 2008
A very successful exchange visit took place involving a party of 30 visitors from Tulle to Bury between 10th and 15th April 2008. All guests were accommodated with host families in the Bury area. A reception with the Mayor of Bury took place on Friday with a social evening at St Bernadettes Social Club later in the evening.. The group was addressed by the Euro MP and after an excellent buffet they were entertained by local group “THE DODGER’S”
Saturday was a free day with host families followed in the evening by a barn dance at Our Lady O Grace church hall in Prestwich. Music was provided by local ceilidh band “SOYABAND” and a display of dancing was given by “LEAP TO YOUR FEET” Appalachian Dancers. The evening was a joint venture with the Voluntary Service Overseas returning support group.
Sunday saw an early start and a coach trip to North Wales which included Smowdonia, the Electric Mountail at Llanberis and Conway.
Monday was another trip, this time to Liverpool, European City Of Culture for 2008. This included the Walker Art Gallery, a trip on the Mersey Ferry, an open top bus ride around the town and a visit to the Albert Docks. In the evening there was an excellent farewell meal for a 100 people at the Sedgley Park Police Training Center.
Tuesday was time to say goodbye once more and the group left for a visit to Knowsley Safari Park before departing from Liverpool airport.
ANNIVERSARY 2009
2009 will be the 50th anniversary of Bury being twinned with Angouleme, 40 years with Tulle, 15th with Schorndorf and 10 years with Woodbury. A major celebration is planned and it is hoped that visitors from all four twin towns will gather in Bury in early July.
Annual General Meeting 14/11/07
At the Stand Unitarian Chapel, Ringley Road, Whitefield. The Chairman and Treasurer reports were accepted. Officers and committee were all returned unopposed The main committee are developing and Equal Opportunities Policy and a Child Protection Policy for the benefit of all. These will be completed in the near future and presented for approval to the committee.
