Our guests were teamed up with Hollins Club members and took part in a pairs knock out bowling competition which, with breaks for drinks and sandwiches and cream cakes, lasted through the afternoon.  Accordingly, visitors from Schorndorf were featured in both of the teams in the final.

The Mayor and Bury South M.P., Mr. Ivan Lewis,

spent the afternoon at the club and met many of our guests. The hospitality of the Club members was really memorable, they worked so hard in a hot kitchen to ensure that our visit to the club was most enjoyable.

An afternoon excursion to Hoghton Towers on

Monday was really interesting. Apparently Hoghton Towers is the third most haunted building in England.  However, because of the high temperatures, the dungeons and underground passages felt less

scary and more of a welcoming respite from the mid afternoon heat at ground level. In the evening, a

band recital by the Fusilier Association Band at St

Stephen’s church was very enjoyable and gave us a

preview of their intended visit to Schorndorf in June

2011.

Tuesday was mainly taken up with a visit to the Fusiliers museum, visits to Manchester and shopping.  The Farewell Dinner in the evening was held at the

3CZons Restaurant at Bury College, where, as usual, the first year students looked after us very well.

Wednesday morning and an early start for Manchester Airport brought the visit to a slightly sad end  with promises to come to Bury again next time and entreaties for us all to visit Schorndorf in 2011.
