NEWSLETTER April 2010

MRS. MARGARET ROBINSON

20/10/36 - 7/3/10

It is with great sadness that we report the

death in March, of Mrs. Margaret Robinson.

Margaret was a founder member of Bury Metro Community Twinning Association at its inception in 1979, and became its first Chairman, later exchanging this role for that of Honorary Secretary.

A lady of great personal charm and persuasive ability, she devoted a great deal of her time and energy towards ensuring that B.M.C.T.A. had a firm foundation.

She represented the association within the Town Hall ‘official’ Twinning Committee, one of only three coopted members allowed to vote. Although she stood down from the Committee, in order to give more time to the founding of the Bury Hospice, for which she was a principal voluntary fund-raiser and organiser, she maintained her interest and commitment to Twinning until her sudden death.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and e express our sincere condolences to Neville and her family.

MEMBERSHIP

For many good reasons, we think of BMCTA as a thriving and successful twinning organisation. Our social functions are well supported. We are able to accommodate all the visitors who come from our twin owns, without any difficulty.  In these difficult economic times our financial status remains sound. We believe that we are well thought of in our twin towns and, as ambassadors of Bury, our credibility with the

Council is high.

However, in spite of all this, and for the first time in many years, our membership has fallen to below 100 family and individual members. To flourish, any organisation needs a hundred members. So perhaps we should begin to think about how we can increase our numbers.

Enclosed with this newsletter is a newly designed, illustrated brochure which describes

each of our

Twin towns,

and goes on to

say something

about the

experience of

twinning.

We hope that

it can be used

to encourage

new members

to join.

Can we ask all members to try to encourage a neighbour or friend to think about joining our Association? There must be lots of people out there who could get as much enjoyment from

twinning as we do.
