Angoulême has a population of about 120, 000 and is situated in the Charente Department north east of Bordeaux and east of Cognac.

It is an old recently restored walled city with a magnificent medieval town hall, as well as a beautiful romanesque cathedral dedicated to St. Pierre.

One of the town's main roads has been named "Boulevard de Bury" (just as Bury has its Angouleme Way) and was opened by the Mayor of Bury in 1960.
Angoulême has a variety of industries, including felt and paper-making. In addition to Bury, it is twinned with towns in Canada, Germany, Mali, Russia and Spain.
