the children.he teams and their supporters were shown the town and surroundings of Tulle and visited the famous Jaques Chirac museum which displayed the gifts that president Chirac was given by visiting heads of state during his period of office. The museum has been featured in a previous newsletter, which described some of the more bizarre gifts - a stuffed Dodo, a silver plated machine gun, model palaces made of gold etc.

The return flight from Limoges was cancelled because

of ash from the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano in celand. Neil Long worked hard and tirelessly to hire coaches to bring the visitors home by road and ferry. One group, consisting of children who had exams on the Monday, travelled over night and the second coach which carried the Mayor, left Tulle on the Monday morning. Fortunately, Councillor Sheila Magnal arrived home in Bury in time to present the chain of office to the new Mayor, Councillor John Byrne at the Mayor Making ceremony on the Tuesday.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

WINE TASTING EVENING Friday 17th September 7.30.pm.

How much do we know about the wine we order at restaurants? Do we always know which wines offer the best value? If, like me, you always ask for chardonnay or pinot grigio or even number two on the list, why not come to the wine tasting evening and sample wines of different standards, different countries and different grapes. Polish up your understanding of wine or learn from scratch. You will find the evening amusing and informative and the wine quiz will be great fun. Tickets for the event will cost £15 per person and includes supper of Lancashire hotpot and apple pie.

The venue for the evening is Stand Unitarian Chapel Hall, Ringley Road, Whitefield To find the chapel:- If

travelling from Bury on Bury New Road, turn right at Morrison’s (in Whitefield), on to Church Lane. Drive past the church and straight on at the traffic lights. You are now on Ringley Road. Continue straight on at the mini roundabout at the Stand Lane junction and the chapel is about 200 yards further, on your right. Parking is at the rear. Book your tickets for this event by writing to John Ratcliffe at 318 Bolton Road, Hawkshaw, Bury, BL8 4JN
